Primary 5 are reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, by J K Rowling. It is a mystical story about 3 friends setting off on many adventures across the wizarding world.
In Maths, we have been learning about symmetry and direction and in Numeracy we have been learning how to use place value.
We have been working on ‘Look on the Bright Side’ and ‘Be Kind to Others’ for Building Resilience. We have been thinking about what makes a big deal or a little deal and how we can solve our problems.
This term P5 have been learning about place value up to one million and have been enjoying our ‘Number of the Day’ challenge.
In Health and Wellbeing, we have been learning about how to be kind to others, using the book ‘Have you filled Your Bucket?’ We have been looking at ways we can make people feel good about themselves.
Our Science topic this term is ‘Solids, Liquids and Gases’. We have been learning about particles called atoms and used Clicker 7 on the laptops to make a mind map about everything we know about the 3 states of matter.
In maths we have been learning about different strategies for adding, for example: doubling 12+12=24, adding decade numbers 34+20=54 and counting on 12+___ =60.
In Literacy we have been doing punctuation with Miss Austin and have been learning about skimming and scanning (searching for key words) with Miss Tidy. In spelling we have been learning our sounds – (short vowels) a,e,i,o,u (long vowels) ay ee igh oa oo ou oi.
We have been learning about Mother Teresa and famous Christians for RME. Mother Teresa helped the poor and gave medicines to the slums and after a successful mission the president gave her a Noble Prize.
